Dubai's Hydropolis: 220-suite luxury underwater hotel
Dubai makes Vegas look like a ride at the state fair. Ultra-rich touristas from all over the world now clamor to The United Arab Emirates everyday to experience a new standard of bloated decadence. First, came the man-made islands:
The Palm Jumeirah, whose fronds offer beach-front lots for 4,000 villas and apartments, juts audaciously into the Persian Gulf. Dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World, the development has doubled Dubai's 45-mile (72 kilometers) shoreline, but has also disrupted its coastal ecosystem.
Now, an underwater luxury hotel is in the works:
It will include three elements: the land
station, where guests will be welcomed, the connecting tunnel, which
will transport people by train to the main area of the hotel, and the
220 suites within the submarine leisure complex. It is one of the
largest contemporary construction projects in the world, covering an
area of 260 hectares, about the size of London's Hyde Park. -Design-build Network
