Second Life: Sex, teleporting, flying....and sex.
Ok. So maybe I'm a little late in learning about Second Life. But now that I've gone to their site and read up, I can't say I've fully bought into the idea at all. I'm pretty fucking busy with my first life. Nevertheless, it's a force that cannot be stopped. Second Life is here to stay and I don't think any of us can properly grasp how big this virtual world is going to become.

I signed up to SL last year but never got off the first intro island. On Friday I decided to take another look as I've heard some more interesting stuff about SL recently.
But it's frustrating to use, isn't it? Loads of private property and no clear direction to any of it - and literally every single non-commercial property I've investigated, apart from one, seems to be a place for sexing it up. So you've got big real-world brands in one area, and total freedom of weirdo expression in another, all competing in the same environment. And that's why I don't think Second Life is going to be the virtual world to crack the mainstream - someone else will learn to make a more palletable version.
The corporate element is inevitable regardless. If you want to go there, companies will find a way to have a presence. The only way around that is to make people pay to play, which isn't going to happen.
Thanks for your comment. These are the kind of conversations I like to have with fellow Voxers.
